Is the Bible the inspired word of God?

Regardless of what point in history or culture one studies one thing is always consistant. That is they believe in a greater power(s). Even today as the atheist community grows everyone believes in something. After all even if one believes in the big bang theory they are still putting his/her faith in a belief. So in an age with so much information, so many religious text, and so many influences pulling us in different directions where do we direct our attention and faith? My answer is simply the Bible. But how is this book any better than the others and why should we put our faith in it?

Before diving into the content of the Bible one must first understand how the Bible is laid out. The Bible is split up into 66 books; 39 books in the old testament that covers 3,600 years of Man’s day and was written over a period of 1,400 years by 32 writers. While the New Testament is written over a period of 100 years. Each of the writers came from completely different walks of life for example David was a king and songwriter, Amos was a simple country man, and Moses was brought up in Pharaohs house. However all their writings are written in perfect harmony that paints a beautiful picture full of foreshadow, prophecy, and history. How is this? I submit to you because while there were multiple writers there was only one author. 1 Peter 1:21 “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” An eminent theologian once quoted, “Of course, there are scientific errors. We must excuse such mistakes; after all, the Bible is not a textbook of science. We cannot expect it to be scientifically perfect.” Now while he was correct that the Bible is not a science book it is completely scientifically accurate! While any science book over a year old becomes obsolete the Bible has never needed to change! In 1861 the French Academy of Science published a booklet stating fifty-one scientific facts that contradict the word of God. However not a single one of those “facts” are believed today yet the Bible still stands. I will take a minute to list many things man discovered long after it was stated in the Bible.

1.) Stars: 1 Corinthians 15:41 … “for one star differs from another.” -Analysis at stars light spectra reveals every star is unique.

2.) Circulation of Atmosphere: Ecclesiates 1:6 “the wind goes towards the south, and turns around towards the north, the wind whirls about continually, and comes again on its circuit.”

3.) Principles of Fluid Dynamics: Job 28:25 “To establish a weight for the wind and apportion the waters by measure.” The fact that air has weight was only scientifically “discovered about 300 years ago.

4.) Blood circulation is key factor to physical life: Leviticus 17:11 “For the life of the flesh is in the blood…” In 1616 William Harvey discovered that blood circulation is the key factor in physical life.

5.) Hydrologic Cycle: Psalm 135:7 “He causeth vapors to ascend from the earth…” Job 36:27-29 “For he taketh small drops of water to pour down rain according to the vapor there of, which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly.”

6.) Universe is expanding: Isaiah 44:24 “Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer and the one who formed you from the womb, I the Lord, and the maker of all things, stretching out the heavens by myself and spreading out the earth all alone.”

7.) Winding down of Universe/second law of thermodynamics ensures universe will run down due to “heat death”: Psalm 102:25-26 “Of old you founded the earth and the heavens are the work of thy hands. They shall perish, but thou shalt endure. Yea all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt change them, and they shall be changed.”

8.) Springs under the ocean: Job 38:16 “Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? Or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?” Springs in the Ocean was not discovered until the 1970s.

9.) Light in motion: Job 38:19-20 “Where is the way to the dwelling of light? And darkness, where is its place, that you may take it to its territory and that you may discern the paths to its home?”

10.) Earth hangs in space/Earth is a sphere: Job 26:7 “He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing.” Isaiah 40:22 “It is He who sits above the circle of the earth…. both of these are known today however during this time it was believed that a (god) physically held it up… It was also believed the Earth was flat.

Obviously it does take faith to believe in God; however it takes faith regardless what you believe in. However there is evidence as written above. How could a book as old as the Bible be thousands of years ahead scientifically; while also containing no contradictions when there were multiple different writers? The only educated conclusion is given in 2 Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction for instruction in righteousness.
